Hospice Volunteer

Do you have free time & are looking for a meaningful way to spend that time? As a volunteer with By Your Side Hospice Care, you can spend that free time with hospice patients to help bring them comfort and happiness in their difficult time.

We train and screen all volunteers as they become an essential member of the hospice team and no prior experience is required. A hospice volunteer can gain great personal satisfaction by knowing they are making an impact in another person's life and by contributing to your community in a compassionate and caring way.

Volunteers can dedicate as much time as they'd like and can choose the type of task appropriate for them.

Examples of volunteer tasks

Patient Assistance:

  • Visit with the patient's in their home (home, nursing home, assisted living, etc)

  • Listening, comforting, and being a supporting presence to patients

  • Engaging in patient's hobbies (playing games, discussing events, etc)

  • Encouraging the patient to tell their story and writing down memories for patients and their families

  • Relaying patient and family needs to the hospice team

  • Run errands or complete light housekeeping

  • Take the patient outside or for a walk

  • Providing time for the caregiver to take a break for themselves

Office Work:

  • Data entry

  • Mailings and photocopying

  • Answering phone calls

  • Assisting the bereavement program

  • Assisting with support services and/or community donations

Position Requirements:

  • 18 or older

  • Background Check

  • Reliable transportation

  • Valid drivers license and auto insurance

  • Passionate in helping others

Volunteers are donating their time and resources and as such are not compensated.
